Long Island Ducks News Release

(Bridgeport, Conn., July 15, 2012) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 10-1 on Sunday afternoon in a rain-shortened series finale at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

Brandon Sing put the Ducks in front for the second consecutive game with a RBI single in the first inning off Bluefish starter Jonah Bayliss. Kraig Binick doubled the lead in the second with a solo homer to left, his second of the season.

The runs kept coming in the third, as the Flock put up a three-spot to extend their lead to 5-0. A RBI double by Sing, a RBI single from Bryant Nelson and a run-scoring fielder's choice off the bat of Mitch Canham did the damage. Two runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth rounded out the scoring for Long Island. Nelson's two-run homer, his eighth of the year, Ray Navarrete's two-run single and a RBI double from Sing highlighted the action.

Monti (6-4) cruised to the win, tossing seven innings of one-run (unearned) ball, allowing seven hits while striking out three. Bayliss (2-6) suffered the loss, allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits in just three innings. The game was called after a rain delay following the top of the eighth inning.

Sing had four hits to lead the Flock, while Nelson, Binick and Reid Gorecki each added three. Sing and Nelson each drove in three runs as well.

The Ducks return home on Monday night, as they host the Somerset Patriots in the opener of a four-game set. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05.
