Bluefish Fall against Ducks

(Bridgeport, Conn. - July 15, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (2-1, 33-40) suffered a rain shortened loss in the series finale against the Long Island Ducks (1-2, 40-32) by a score of 10-1 at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard, in seven-and-a-half innings, on Sunday. Bridgeport is now 8-5 against Long Island this season.

The Bluefish allowed the first ten runs of the contest before breaking the shutout in the sixth. Luis Lopez scored the only run of the contest for the home team and was the only player to collect multiple hits. Kennard Jones, Eddie Rogers, Brock Peterson, James Simmons, and Luis Figueroa got the rest of the hits on Sunday for Bridgeport.

Four Long Island hitters earned multiple hit nights. Bryant Nelson had three hits and drove in three while Brandon Sing collected four hits and drove in three runs. Reid Gorecki scored three times and earned three hits while Kraig Binick had a three-hit day. Ray Navarrete scored twice and drove in two for the winning team.

Bridgeport starter, Jonah Bayliss (2-6), suffered the loss as the righthander allowed five runs (three earned) on seven hits, one walk, and three strikeouts. Three relievers combined to throw five frames and surrendered five runs, nine hits, one walk, and five strikeouts.

Long Island hurler, Jason Monti (6-4), pitched a complete game by serving seven innings. The righthanded starter allowed one run on seven hits and a walk while fanning three.

Bridgeport starts a four game series against the York Revolution on Monday. First pitch is slated for 6:30 PM. Bridgeport will send lefthanded pitcher, Gilbert De La Vara (3-5, 3.93 ERA), to the hill against York southpaw starter Matt Chico (1-2, 5.16 ERA). The gates open one hour before first pitch. The pre-game show airs twenty minutes before each first pitch.
