Long Island Nets Fall to College Park in Home Opener

LONG ISLAND - The Long Island Nets (1-1), the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, were defeated by the College Park Skyhawks (1-1) 120-109 tonight at NYCB LIVE, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, in Long Island's home opener.

Deng Adel led the way for all Long Island scorers, finishing with 27 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field and 4-of-7 shooting from 3-point range to go along with four rebounds and four assists in 37 minutes. Nets guard C.J. Williams contributed 15 points in 37 minutes for Long Island.

Long Island guard CJ Massinburg recorded the first double-double of his NBA G League career off the bench, registering 11 points and 12 rebounds to go along with four assists and a block in 27 minutes. Guards Jaylen Hands and Devin Cannady also each contributed 16 points in tonight's loss.

The Nets jumped out to an early 9-2 lead in the first quarter and continued their strong play through the reminder of the quarter, closing it out ahead, 30-23. College Park then came back in the second quarter, led by the strong play of guards Tahjere McCall and Brandon Goodwin. The Skyhawks outscored the Nets 29-10 through the first 8:57 of the second quarter and outscored the Nets 35-20 in the period to enter halftime leading the Nets, 58-50.

The two teams continued to battle back and forth throughout the third quarter, with Long Island closing the lead to as many as four points. Thanks to a buzzer-beating three by C.J. Williams at the end of the third, the Nets were able to close the lead to six points going into the final quarter, down 90-84. The Nets were able to get within one point with four minutes left to play before a 5-0 run by the Skyhawks over the next minute of play secured the victory for College Park, 120-109.

The Skyhawks were led by forward Marcus Derrickson, who finished the contest with a game-high 31 points on 11-of-25 shooting from the field and 5-of-14 shooting from 3-point range to go along with nine rebounds, two assists and a block in 38 minutes of play. Guard Brandon Goodwin also had a strong performance for the Skyhawks with 27 points, seven rebounds, nine assists and four steals in 27 minutes.

The Nets play their next game against the Delaware Blue Coats on Friday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m. ET at NYCB LIVE, while the Skyhawks will travel to Lakeland to take on the Magic next on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. ET.
