
Long Island Nets Defeat Iowa in Season Opener

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Long Island Nets (1-0), the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, defeated the Iowa Wolves (0-1) 131-128 tonight in the team's 2021 season opener at AdventHealth Arena.
Long Island forward BJ Johnson led the way with a team-high 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field to go along with four rebounds, a steal and a block in 29 minutes of play.
Nets two-way forward Reggie Perry recorded 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and 2-of-3 shooting from 3-point range and added seven rebounds, four assists, two blocks and a steal in 24 minutes of action. Long Island guard Elie Okobo finished with 13 points, three rebounds, nine assists and a steal in 29 minutes of play, as seven Nets scored in double figures in the victory.
Iowa forward Tyler Cook finished with a game-high 31 points on 14-of-20 shooting from the field to go along with 10 rebounds, nine assists, a steal and two blocks in 40 minutes of play, recording a double-double in the loss. Wolves guard Allonzo Trier added 26 points, six rebounds, two assists and a block in 33 minutes of action.
Long Island got off to a hot start to open the contest, jumping out to a 20-4 lead with 7:25 remaining in the first. The Nets extended their advantage to as many as 23 points and took a 41-21 lead into the second quarter.
Iowa fought back with a 10-2 run over the opening 1:50 of the second quarter, cutting its deficit to 12 points. Long Island kept pace and held off the Wolves for the remainder of the second, carrying a 70-59 lead into halftime.
The Wolves had a strong start to the second half, cutting Long Island's lead to 84-80 at the midway point of the third. Iowa maintained its momentum, outscoring the Nets 40-29 in the quarter as the two teams entered the fourth tied at 99-99.
Long Island took control in the fourth, scoring 14 unanswered points over the first 2:58 of the quarter. The Wolves battled back, however, tying it up at 128-128 with 31.8 seconds to play. Long Island responded with a late 3-pointer from Okobo and held on to win 131-128.
The Nets will host the Lakeland Magic in their next game on Friday, Feb. 12, at 3:30 p.m. ET at HP Field House, while the Wolves will face the Agua Caliente Clippers next on Friday, Feb. 12, at 7:30 p.m. ET.
