
Long Ball Hurts Owlz in Opener in Great Falls

(Great Falls) - The Orem Owlz surrendered three home runs in a 6-1 loss to the Great Falls Voyagers on Tuesday night at Centene Stadium in Great Falls.
Livan Soto opened the game with a double down the right-field line and moved to third base on a Kevin Maitan groundout. The next batter, Nonie Williams, hit into a fielder's choice as Soto was thrown out at the plate. Fransisco Del Valle and Tim Millard collected back-to-back hits, scoring Nonie Williams, giving the Owlz a 1-0 lead.
Ian Dawkins tied the game in the bottom of the first inning, hitting a solo home run to right. Later in the inning, Ramon Beltre singled and scored on a Logan Sowers double, putting the Voyagers in front, 2-1. Great Falls wasn't done, scoring two more runs on a Corey Zangari homer, pushing the lead to 4-1.
It was Zangari again in the third inning, hitting a solo home run, his second of the game.
The Owlz loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the fifth inning but failed to score. Great Falls added one more run in the sixth on a Logan Sowers RBI single, extending the Voyagers' lead to 6-1.
Voyagers' starter Spencer Moran (2-1) earned the win while Matt Leon (1-1) was charged with the loss. The Owlz and Voyagers continue their series on Wednesday night at 7:00 at Centene Stadium.
