Lollis leads TinCaps to 4-1 win

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - RHP Matt Lollis again pitched into the eighth inning and Jeudy Valdez drove in a pair of runs as the TinCaps rolled to a 4-1 victory over the Lansing Lugnuts, Monday at Parkview Field.

Fort Wayne is now 17-5 in August and cut the magic number to clinch a playoff berth to four.

Lollis didn't allow a run until the eighth inning. He went 7.2 innings, allowing a run on six hits, walking one and striking out three.

The TinCaps opened the scoring in the third. Jeudy Valdez cracked a two-run double into the left- field corner, scoring Wande Olabisi and Danny Payne.

An inning later, Daniel Meeley led off with a single to left. Edinson Rincon followed with a double down the right-field line to make it 3-0.

In the seventh, Valdez roped a two-out double and scored on Jason Hagerty's single.

Lansing got onto the board in the top of the eighth, when Michael Crouse yanked a double to left, then scored two batters later on a Kevin Nolan single to cut it to a 4-1 margin. After an error, Lollis was lifted from the game. RHP Stiven Osuna came on to fan the only batter he faced to end the rally.

Lollis (4-1) picked up the win; Lansing LHP Egan Smith (6-3) took the loss. Mikolas grabbed his tenth save as he celebrated his 22nd birthday.

Fort Wayne extended its win streak to four and upped its record to 36-20 in the half, 72-54 for the season. The Lugnuts fell to 26-30 in the second half, 62-63 for the year.

The TinCaps finish the four-game series Monday against the Lugnuts (Class-A Toronto Blue Jays) at 7:05 p.m. Fort Wayne LHP Mike Watt (5-4) goes to the mound against Lansing LHP Dave Sever (5-9).
