Tulsa Oilers News Release
Tulsa-While wiping the sand from your eyes and glancing at the TV over the next few mornings what ever channel your remote lands on there is a chance the Tulsa Oilers are the topic.
With the signing of two-time Olympian, gold and silver medallist, Patty Kazamaier award winner and first ever female skater to hit the ice in the Central Hockey League, Angela Ruggiero, the Oilers have become national news.
Already inundated with dozens of requests from national print media outlets including Sports Illustrated, USA Today, ESPN.com and NHL.com along with radio stations all over Canada and the United States, Angela and her brother, Oilers goalie Bill Ruggiero, will now hit nationwide TV.
Friday, January 28th, the day the Ruggiero's become the first brother-sister tandem in North American pro-hockey history, both Angela and Bill will be live on ESPN2's morning show Cold Pizza. Around the same time a reporter from NBC's Today Show will be showing up with a camera crew at the Tulsa Convention Center to prepare for a story on the duo that will appear next week.
Both brother and sister have already made several appearances on local television since Angela's arrival from Boston on Wednesday. After spending over ten hours in airports and on airplanes, the sibling's reunion was abbreviated by an Oilers press conference just 45 minutes after her arrival in Tulsa.
All the publicity the Oilers are receiving is also helping to serve a purpose beyond hockey. A portion of the ticket sales to the Oilers game against Rio Grande Valley, the game in which Angela will play, will go the Red Cross' tsunami relief efforts.
