(Vancouver) The BC Lions Football Club is saddened to learn of the passing of Pat Claridge.

Claridge was a member of the BC Lions from 1961 to 1966 and was a key receiver for the club throughout his career. Born in Vancouver on July 12, 1938, he played his junior football in BC for the Vancouver Meralomas before a very successful career at the University of Washington from 1958 to 1961. Not only was he the only Canadian at the time to ever play in back-to-back Rose Bowls, he starred on the 1961 Huskies team and was named Second-Team All-Coast before joining the Lions that summer.

Pat played alongside his brother Bruce for the Leos until a trade that sent his sibling to Calgary and brought Joe Kapp from the Stamps in August 1961. He became a starter at the split end position for the Lions in his first season and in a six-year career that spanned 93 CFL games he caught 198 passes for 2,497 yards and 5 TDs.

His finest season came in 1964 when he grabbed 39 receptions for 577 yards, was named to the Western Conference All-Star team and was a key part of the club's first-ever Grey Cup winning team. Pat also earned the team's nomination as Most Outstanding Canadian for 1964 and still ranks in the top 25 among all-time Lions receivers.
