B.C. Lions News Release
(Vancouver) The BC Lions Football Club announced this afternoon that long snapper Dan McCullough has retired.
"Dan informed us this week of his decision to retire in order to pursue business interests," said Lions VP of football operations and GM, Wally Buono. "He was a dedicated player who made our club through sheer hard work and determination. We wish him the very best in the future.
Originally attending Lions training camp in 2007 as an undrafted free agent, the Bishop's University grad eventually made the squad as the starting long snapper in 2008 and didn't miss a start through the next four seasons. In total, McCullough appeared in 72 games recording 26 special teams tackles.
The club also announced that free agent long snapper and defensive lineman Sean Ortiz has signed with the team. Ortiz was with the Lions in 2010 and appeared in six games before being released in training camp last season. The White Rock, BC native was picked up by the Montreal Alouettes in July and appeared in two games before being released and signing with Hamilton where he dressed for four more games last year.
In other team transactions, defensive back J.R. Ruffin was released. Ruffin appeared in three games last season and recorded 4 defensive tackles.
