B.C. Lions News Release
(Vancouver) The wait is over and fans of the BC Lions can now circle some very important dates on their football calendar as the Canadian Football League released the 2015 regular season schedule this morning.
The Lions, under new head coach Jeff Tedford, will kick off their 2015 home schedule with a huge divisional rivalry game as the Saskatchewan Roughriders make their first of two visits out west on Friday, July 10th.
"We believe this year's schedule has a little something for everyone," said Lions president and CEO Dennis Skulsky. "We're going to experiment with some unique game nights during the summer and continue with our traditional Friday and Saturday dates after Labour Day."
Following the tilt versus Saskatchewan, the Lions host Ricky Ray and the Toronto Argonauts on Friday, July 24th and then play a pair of Thursday night games in August (6th, 20th) against Edmonton and Montreal.
"Thursday dates in August will provide our fans with the opportunity to enjoy great football games during the week while also allowing them to plan summer weekend activities that may take them out of town," added Skulsky
The Lions start the second half of their home schedule with a Sunday afternoon matchup with the Ottawa REDBLACKS on Sunday, September 13th at 1:00 pm. Following a pair of road games, the club will play four of their final six regular season games at home including another heated battle with Saskatchewan on Saturday, October 3rd at 4:00 pm.
"Two home games versus Saskatchewan certainly makes this year's home schedule pretty special," added Skulsky. "We've seen a significant rivalry building with the "ËRiders over the past few years and our fans really make it an electric atmosphere for those games."
Two other October home dates include visits by Winnipeg on Saturday the 10th and Hamilton on Friday the 23rd with a regular season finale against the reigning Grey Cup champion Calgary Stampeders on Saturday, November 7th at 4:00 pm.
The Lions get things started with a preseason game on the road versus Calgary on June 12th, but will be out of their den at BC Place for their second exhibition game versus Edmonton to help make way for the FIFA Women's World Cup.
"We are looking at a couple different solutions for that game and we'll be communicating our plans when we have something more concrete in place," said Skulsky.
