B.C. Lions News Release
(Vancouver) The BC Lions Football Club took advantage of having three selections in the first two rounds of the CFL Canadian Draft by trading up with the Edmonton Eskimos to snag defensive lineman Jabar Westerman with the second overall pick. The Leos sent their fourth overall selection as well as their 14th and 38th picks to the Green and Gold in exchange for the number two selection and the 20th slot overall.
Westerman appeared in 23 games over two seasons with Eastern Michigan after transferring from Dodge City Community College. The Brampton, Ontario native recorded 48 defensive tackles and five sacks for the Spartans.
With their second selection (seventh overall), the Grey Cup champs picked up offensive lineman Kirby Fabien from the University of Calgary. Fabien started every game at right tackle for the Dinos over the past three seasons and was a Canada West All-Star in 2009 and 2011.
"We're very pleased with our results so far today," said Lions GM Wally Buono whose staff still has two picks remaining in the third and fifth rounds. "We believe that we have selected two young men so far that enable us to remain strong on both sides of the line of scrimmage."
