Lions Lock up Deontai Williams Through 2028

(Vancouver) - The BC Lions announced today that American defensive back Deontai Williams Sr. has signed a two-year contract extension. Williams was eligible to become a free agent following the 2026 campaign.

Williams (6'0, 205 lbs)- the hard-hitting and versatile defender has made a big impact on the defence again this season, racking up 57 combined tackles (50 defence, seven special teams), three tackles for a loss, one interception, two sacks, two fumble recoveries and eight pass knockdowns in 13 regular season contests.

Williams joined the Lions as a free agent ahead of 2025 and recorded 73 defensive tackles, four tackles for a loss, three sacks, a forced fumble and seven pass knockdowns across 18 regular season games.

He previously suited up in 27 games with the Saskatchewan Roughriders from 2023-24, registering 90 defensive tackles, three interceptions and 11 pass knockdowns.

Before moving north, Williams attended 2022 training camp with the Seattle Seahawks. In 29 games at Nebraska from 2018-21, the Jacksonville, Florida native had 122 defensive tackles, 6.5 tackles for a loss, six interceptions, 15 pass knockdowns, three forced fumbles and one fumble return touchdown. Williams earned All-Big Ten Honourable mentions in 2020 and 2021.
