Lindsey, Isotopes Overcome Cubs 8-4

July 28, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

John Lindsey racked up four hits and drove in four runs to help propel the Albuquerque Isotopes (53-50) to an 8-4 win over the Iowa Cubs (58-47) Wednesday night at Isotopes Park.

Unlike the last five games, it was the Isotopes that jumped out to a 2-0 first-inning lead, plating a pair of runs on back-to-back RBI singles by Lindsey and Jamie Hoffmann.

Albuquerque added to the two-run lead in the third. Russ Mitchell (19) and Lindsey (17) hit back-to-back solo home runs to extend the advantage to 4-0 over the I-Cubs and their starting pitcher J.R. Mathes.

After Iowa got on the board with a Micah Hoffpauir home run in the top of the fourth, Justin Sellers led off the bottom of the frame with a triple to the right-center gap and left fielder Trent Oeltjen grounded out two batters later, giving Sellers enough time to score. De Jesus Jr. then added the final of three solo shots by the 'Topes to give Albuquerque a comfortable 6-1 lead.

Reliever Jon Link made his first start since his rookie year in 2005 and performed well, shutting down the Cubs in three strong frames, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out two. Link was spelled by Bobby Blevins (1-1), who had literally just arrived in Albuquerque from Double-A Chattanooga moments before the game and was excellent, allowing one run while scattering seven hits in 3.1 innings to earn his first career Triple-A victory.

Lindsey capped his big night in the sixth, lacing a two-run double to boost the home team's lead to 8-1. In four trips, Lindsey collected four hits and drove in four runs to pace Albuquerque's offensive attack.

Iowa crept back into the game in the eighth, scoring three runs to draw within 8-4, but Albuquerque closer Scott Dohmann discontinued any chance of a Cubs comeback in the ninth, striking out the side to secure the 8-4 'Topes triumph.

The Isotopes will battle the Baby Bears again on Thursday with right-hander Seth Etherton (3-3, 482) taking on Cubs righty Thomas Diamond (5-4, 3.28) in a 7:05 PM start from The Lab.

Albuquerque's hard-rocking homestand continues with a series with the Iowa Cubs and their Hall of Fame Manager Ryne Sandberg. Tomorrow, the Isotopes will give away special Ryne Sandberg posters to the first 3,000 fans courtesy of Cottonwood Printing to commemorate Sandberg's visit. Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or on-line at www.albuquerquebaseball.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
