Aces Spin 8-0 Shutout Over Las Vegas

RENO, Nev.-Four Aces pitchers combined to twirl a three-hit shutout Wednesday night, as Reno cruised to an 8-0 victory over the Las Vegas 51s at Aces Ballpark.

The victory gives the Aces a 6-3 lead in the vaunted 2010 Silver State Diamond Challenge. The shutout marked Reno's third of the season and 13th in franchise history.

Zach Kroenke was nearly unhittable for the Aces, making a spot start in place of Wes Roemer. Kroenke worked four scoreless frames, allowing just two hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

The Reno bullpen came on in the fifth and picked-up just where Kroenke left off. Jose Marte (1-2) worked two hitless frames to earn the win, Leyson Septimo punched out two in a scoreless eighth inning and Jason Urquidez ended the proceedings with a spotless ninth.

The loss fell to Las Vegas starter Luis Perez (3-3), who surrendered four runs in the first inning and six runs overall.

At the plate for Reno, Chris Rahl and Carlos Corporan chipped-in two RBIs a piece. Jeff Bailey singled and tripled, extending his home on-base streak to 29-straight games.

The series continues on Thursday night from Aces Ballpark. RHP Josh Collmenter (2-2, 5.50 ERA) takes the ball for Reno. Las Vegas counters with RHP Lance Broadway (2-8, 7.08 ERA). The 7:05 p.m. PT contest marks another Coors Light Thirsty Thursday(tm), with $2 Coors and Coors Lights available until the fifth inning. It is also Hometown Heroes Night, where the Aces will honor the everyday heroes that make Northern Nevada a great place to live.
