RedHawks And Round Rock Express Continue 4 Game Series

TODAY: The RedHawks and Round Rock Express continue a 4-game series with an 11:05 am "Day Care Day" matinee at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. OKC took the series opener 5-3 last night and has won 7 of 9 against the Express in 2010. Last night's game halted the RedHawks' 4-game losing streak and coupled with an Albuquerque loss moved OKC 2 games up on the Isotopes in the American South. New Orleans remains 3.5 back and the Express are 12 games behind. Rangers lefthander Derek Holland, originally placed on Texas' DL with rotator cuff inflammation but later dealt with a right knee subluxation, will get make a rehab start against Shane Loux. Holland tossed 7.2 scoreless innings against the Express in a 6-0 win April 13.

WELCOME BACK: Esteban German contributed a pair of RBIs on a single and double in last night's come-from-behind, 5-3 win. German, who singled home the go-ahead run in a 4-run seventh inning, missed 11 games with a strained left hamstring. OKC was 3-8 in his absence.

BROWN'S STREAK AT 11: Matt Brown has hit safely in 11 straight games, going 14-for-42 (.333) with 1 homer and 5 RBIs. Brown's streak is the second-best by a RedHawk this year. Jarrod Saltalamacchia has the longest OKC hitting streak, 16 games, from April 21-May 11. Since returning from the DL July 1, Brown is batting .337 with 2 home runs and 8 RBIs.

BOGGS UPDATE: Brandon Boggs owns a 26-game on-base streak dating to June 21. He has reached base by hit or walk in each of his last 49 starts since May 24, the only break in the streak being a strikeout as a pinch hitter June 19. Boggs is third in the league in walks with 63.

HOLLAND REHABS: Texas lefty Derek Holland is slated to make a rehab start for the RedHawks today. Holland has been on the Rangers' DL since June 1, (retro May 31) with inflammation of the left rotator cuff. Holland later sustained a subluxation of his right knee during a fielding drill in Surprise, Ariz. Holland was OKC's opening day starter and went 4-1 with a 0.93 ERA in 6 starts before being recalled by Texas May 13. Holland, the PCL's first Pitcher of the Week this season (April 8-19) is 2-1 with a 4.19 ERA in 5 Texas games this season, 4 of them starts.

PITCHING TIDBITS: The RedHawks are 23-16 when the bullpen does not allow a run. OKC is 2-0 when no relievers are used and 29-32 when the relief corps allows a run. With Tanner Scheppers earning a save last night, each of the last 3 OKC saves has been against Round Rock. The others were picked up by Cody Eppley July 9 and Clay Rapada July 8. Rapada has the lowest opponents' batting average in the PCL among ERA qualifiers at .172 and the best ratio of base runners per 9 innings among PCL relievers at 8.74. Rapada has allowed 9 hits, all singles, against left-handed hitters, limiting them to a .115 average. Michael Kirkman is fourth in the PCL with a 3.16 ERA and leads the league with 1-3 strikeouts. Kirkman's .234 opponents' batting average is tied for second-lowest in the league behind Thomas Diamond of Iowa (.217).

TOPS IN ERA: The RedHawks lead the PCL in team ERA at 3.77. Iowa is second at 3.97 after allowing 12 runs in a 14-12 win at Albuquerque last night. The RedHawks have allowed the fewest home runs (63) in Triple-A. They have also surrendered the fewest runs (439) in the PCL and are second in strikeouts (759) behind Sacramento (782).

ODDS AND TRENDS: Craig Gentry has hit safely in 16 of 19 starts since returning from the DL July 7 and is batting .333 (29-for-87) in those games...Gentry has raised his average from .283 to .304 in that time...Gregorio Petit has hits in 12 of 14 games since the All-Star Break, going 16-for-49 (.327)...the RedHawks are 35-24 when Hernan Iribarren plays second base (where he played last night), the highest mark above .500 for any 2010 RedHawk at a given position...Mitch Moreland has started 12 straight games at first base after making all of his previous starts this season in either right field (79) or left (3). Despite not playing the outfield since July 16, Moreland still leads the league with 11 outfield assists.
