Lindberg, Erdman Skate for U.S. Again

Waterloo, Iowa - Gavin Lindberg and Griffin Erdman will go for gold next month as members of the United States Junior Select hockey team during the World Junior A Challenge in Truro, Nova Scotia, USA Hockey announced on Thursday.

The two Waterloo Black Hawks' forwards have both represented their country before. Lindberg played in the same event last year, helping the U.S. to a first place finish in Cornwall, Ontario. Erdman was a member of the American team which competed for the Hlinka Gretzky Cup during August of 2022.

The two veteran players will join Hawks Head Coach Matt Smaby and Strength Coach Spenser Popinga, who were named to Team USA's World Junior A Challenge staff last week. Smaby will be the head coach for the U.S. in Truro, while Popinga will serve in a dual role as strength coach and equipment manager.

Lindberg and Erdman are currently tied for second among Waterloo players with four goals apiece. Both have played in all 13 Hawks games this season. Erdman has six assists, while Lindberg has five. During 84 career regular season games, Lindberg has produced 44 points (19 goals, 25 assists), including five game-winning goals. Erdman has skated in 78 Hawks games with 52 points (22 goals, 30 assists) and a career +11 plus/minus differential. Erdman is committed to Northeastern, while Lindberg is a Colorado College recruit.

The World Junior A Challenge begins on December 10th. The United States will play in four preliminary stage games before the medal round begins. Other countries participating in the five-team event represent Slovakia, Sweden, and eastern and western Canada. Team USA has won the World Junior A Challenge nine times since the event began in 2006.

The entire U.S. Junior Select roster is comprised of players from the United States Hockey League.
