Omaha Lancers News Release

OMAHA, NE. - The Omaha Lancers would faceoff with the Des Moines Buccaneers for the first time this season Thursday Night (11/16) at Liberty First Credit Union Arena.

The Lancers would start out flat in the opening period of play with Des Moines drawing first blood.

The scoring would start with forward Lubomir Kupco on the powerplay to give Des Moines the 1-0 advantage.

With just 7 seconds to go in the opening frame Buccaneers defenseman Joe Gramer would wrist one through Lancer netminder Lucas Szyszka after being screened by his own defense to extend the Buccaneers' lead at 2-0 heading into the second period of play.

The second period would provide much of the same as what was in the first with Des Moines continuing to provide offense.

Buccaneer forward Braedon Ford would kick off the scoring in the middle frame giving the Des Moines the 3-0 lead.

Shortly thereafter Des Moines forward Ilya Protas would receive a backdoor feed to tap one home on the powerplay to stretch the Bucs' lead at 4-0.

Lancer defenseman Ryan Kusler would finally have enough as he would mix it up with Des Moines forward Nate Delladonna with Kusler feeding Delladonna with repeated right hands that would get the Lancer Faithful back into it while also giving the team a spark of life.

Eventually, the Lancers would cash in as forward David Deputy would send a shot off the crossbar and in the net to cut the deficit at 4-1.

However, the Lancers would be called for a questionable too many men on the ice penalty, and with just 6 seconds into the Des Moines powerplay forward Jack Kernan would wrist one over Szyszka to put Des Moines back out in front by 4 at 5-1 going into the third and final frame.

The third period would commence with Jack Olson getting the nod in cage for the third period.

It would not take long for Des Moines to find the back of the net again, as just 51 seconds into the third Braedon Ford would get his second of the season and second of the game to extend the Bucs' lead at 6-1.

Soon after, Des Moines defenseman Connor Bewick would get in on the fun with a wicked wrister to give Des Moines the 7-1 lead.

The Lancers would eventually fall to the Bucs 7-1 in a head-scratching Thursday night.

The Lancers are back in action Saturday night against the Lincoln Stars at Liberty First Credit Union Arena. Puck drop is at 6:05 PM CST. You can catch the game on Mixlr or FloSports.
