Omaha Lancers News Release

LINCOLN, NE. - The Lancers made the short bus trip west to Lincoln to take on the Lincoln Stars for the first time in the 2022-23 regular season.

In preseason play, the two teams split as the Lancers took down the Stars 2-1 in overtime, followed up by a 6-3 loss the very next day at Liberty First Credit Union Arena.

The first period began with great momentum for Omaha, leading in shots 5-1 through the first eight minutes of play. But a slashing penalty to Will Diamond flipped the offensive intensity as the Stars found the back of the net on that man advantage off a shot from Keaton Peters. Putting the Stars up 1-0 at just over the halfway point of the period.

Just a few minutes later in a battle below the goal line, Lancers Forward, Tanner Rowe picked up a double-minor for high sticking; drawing blood on the face of Keaton Peters unintentionally.

With 2:12 left in the penalty, a rebound off a shot from Jack Larrigan found the stick of Michael Mesic, who blasted a slap shot to the midsection of the net to take the 2-0 lead that the Stars carried into the intermission.

First period shots were 11-9 in favor of Lincoln, as they were 2/3 on the powerplay through 20 minutes.

The offensive power from Lincoln increased for the second period with four more goals coming off the sticks of Wyatt Olson, Klavs Veinbergs, Keaton Peters (2), and Doug Grimes.

All goals came on even strength, and before the halfway mark of the period as the Lancers were able to stop the bleeding for the last 12 minutes of the period. Leading them to the second intermission, down 6-0.

The third period of play was kicked off with the Lancers lone goal of the evening, a breakaway goal by Evan Werner for his second of the season, making it a 6-1 game that ended up being the final score.

The Lancers will be back in action on Friday, October 14th in Waterloo for a 7:05PM puck drop with the Black Hawks. That game can be caught on Mixlr and FloSports.
