The Aftermath: Storm Drops 4-1 Decision to Black Hawks

WATERLOO, IA. - The Tri-City Storm dropped a 4-1 decision to the Waterloo Black Hawks Saturday night at Young Arena. The loss snapped Tri-City's three-game winning streak, and was the first loss of the season for the Storm. Dane Dowiak scored the team's only goal of the game on the powerplay during the 3rd period.

The Black Hawks outshot the Storm 16-5 in the 1st period, and the 2nd period began in a 0-0 tie. Aaron Pionk scored the opening goal of the game at 8:49 of Saturday's 2nd period for Waterloo. The goal was assisted by Gavin Lindberg and Tyler Procious. Waterloo outshot Tri-City 15-3 in the 2nd period, and the team carried a 1-0 lead into the 3rd period.

Jake McLean netted a goal less than four minutes into the 3rd period to increase Waterloo's lead to two goals. The goal was netted at 3:33 of the period and was assisted by Sam Rinzel. Gavyn Thoreson scored his second goal of the season at 13:18 of Saturday's 3rd period to give the Black Hawks a 3-0 advantage in the matchup. The goal was assisted by Ben Robertson. Dane Dowiak netted his first goal of the season with less than one minute to play to cut the Waterloo lead to 3-1. Dowiak's goal was scored on the powerplay, and was assisted by Kieran Cebrian and Drew Montgomery. Waterloo's Aaron Pionk scored the final goal of Saturday's game into an empty net with thirteen seconds remaining in the game. Pionk's goal was his second of the game, and third of the season. Waterloo outshot Tri-City 12-8 in the 3rd period, and 43-16 overall in the game.

Karlis Mezsargs recorded the loss in net for the Storm after making 39 saves on 42 shots. Emmett Croteau picked up the win in net for the Black Hawks by stopping 15 of Tri-City's 16 shots on goal.
