October 8, 2022 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Madison Capitols News Release

The Capitols came into Saturday night's game against Chicago with a chance to move to above .500 for the first time this season. The matchup between the Caps and Steel was the first between the two teams since the 2022 Conference Semifinals where Madison defeated the Steel in a best of three series.

In the first period, the Capitols got out to a hot start getting a lot of good looks on the Steel goaltender. Sadly for Madison, none of the looks in the games initial period were able to find twine. Chicago was able to get one past goaltender Eino Rissanen and the Capitols after a tremendous effort by the goaltender on flurry of chances. The Steel took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

The game's middle frame had the Steel extend their lead to four. Although they were unable to strike on any of their power play opportunities, their success was found at even strength.

After outshooting the Steel in the first two periods of the game, the offense finally started to convert on the shots in the third period. Goals from Ethan Elias and Matt McGroarty had the Caps down two just under five minutes into the third period.

Two power play chances late in the game for the Caps were converted upon, one from Jack Musa and the other from Miko Matikka. Chicago responded quickly to both goals, and came away with a 6-4 win.

The Capitols hit the road next weekend to face off against Muskegon on Thursday and Friday. The team returns home on the 28th of October for the teams second $1 Beer Night of the season.
