LINCOLN (2-1)
The Stars take on their rival for the first time this regular season. They split a pair of preseason games with the Lancers and took six-of-10 games against their rivals a season ago. Lincoln was last in action two Fridays ago, falling to the Sioux Falls Stampede, 3-2. Brennan Ali tied the game up at 1-1 with a tally two minutes into the third period and Doug Grimes also scored just after a power play expired midway through the period. The Stars could not overcome allowing a pair of power play goals during a five-minute power play in between both Stars goals.
OMAHA (1-0-1-1)
The Lancers, unlike the Stars, were in action last night and picked up a point with a 4-3 shootout loss in their home opener against the Tri-City Storm. Omaha remains unbeaten in regulation in part to killing all eight Tri-City power plays last night. However, the Lancers only went 1-for-8 on the man advantage themselves.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
Former Star: Griffin Jurecki accrued 13 goals and 19 assists in parts of the last three seasons with the Stars but is now with Omaha after being traded for Michael Mesic and a seventh round pick in the 2023 USHL Phase II Draft. Jurecki has a goal and an assist in three regular-season games and centered Omaha's top line last night.
New To The Stars: Matthew Vander Vort will make his USHL debut tonight for the Stars. The forward from Edina, Minn. appeared in four games with the North Iowa Bulls of the North American Hockey League this season prior to joining Lincoln. He is looking for his first point in juniors after scoring 13 goals and adding 13 assists in 31 games for Edina High School last year.
