Kansas City Monarchs News Release
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - After rain postponed Saturday night's game, the Kansas City T-Bones opened the first game of a doubleheader with a 7-5 loss to the Lincoln Saltdogs at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on Sunday night.
Kansas City spotted the Saltdogs seven runs in the first two innings and trailed 7-1, when the T-Bones made things interesting in the fifth inning of the seven-inning contest. Alex Marquez led the inning off with a double down the right field line. Following a walk to Ryan Cavan, Nathan Tenbrink managed to find a hole between first and second base with a base hit that scored Marquez. Another run came in due to a mishandled throw to second by Saltdogs shortstop Mike Gilmartin. Kyle Robinson stepped to the plate later in the inning with two runners on and doubled to left-center field, bringing in the last two runs on the night for Kansas City.
T-Bones starter Kyle Brady struggled to find the strike zone Sunday night, which was reflected in his pitch count (29 balls, 25 strikes). Brady walked three and allowed five hits, as Lincoln scored four runs against him in 4 2/3 innings.
The two teams started game two of the doubleheader around 9:30.
