Laredo Lemurs News Release

Laredo, TX - The Amarillo Thunderheads (2-2) scored three runs in the seventh and held firm with the lead to beat the Laredo Lemurs (2-2) 4-3 on Sunday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.

The starters tonight set the pace in the game. Lemurs' starter Chad Povich (0-1), who was making his first start since 2010, kept the Thunderheads to one run on six hits through five innings of work with a walk and three strikeouts. Povich ends up taking the loss, despite giving one run in the game.

Thunderheads starter Chris Balcom-Miller (1-0) picked up the win as he did not give up a run over five innings of work while giving up three hits and striking out five.

The Thunderheads offense grabbed one run in the fifth and they put up three runs in the seventh off of three different Lemur relievers.

The Lemurs offense all came in the seventh, with one out Kevin Taylor walked to start the rally. Tony Delmonico then came to the plate and crushed a pitch from Kamakani Usui that cleared the picnic area in left field for his first home run of the season, making the score 4-2 in favor of Amarillo. Usui would be taken out of the game at that point and reliever Brooks Pinckard faced Lemurs catcher Luke Bailey. Baily swung at the first pitch from Pinckard and hit a long fly over the left center field wall to pull the Lemurs within one run.

Over the next two innings the Lemurs would only come up with one base runner, a hit by Kevin Taylor to lead off the ninth. He would be stranded at first to end the game.

The Lemurs now hit the road for the first time this year. They will go to Grand Prairie, Texas and play a three game set starting on Tuesday at 7:05pm. The Wednesday and Thursday games are scheduled to start at 10:35am in Grand Prairie, Texas. The Lemurs will return to Laredo for a six-game home stand starting Friday, May 29, when they will host the St. Paul Saints.
