Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA - Shawn Limpright scored both Mudbugs goals and Brian Foster stopped 32 shots in the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs' 2-1 victory over the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees Thursday night at the CenturyTel Center. The win pushed Bossier-Shreveport's win streak to three games and improved their record to 6-2 on the young season.

Limpright and David Rutherford both scored in the shootout as Foster shut down four of five Rio Grande Valley shooters in the win, which came on the night the Mudbugs honored former goaltender Ken Carroll and celebrated 10 years at the CenturyTel Center. Foster is now 3-0 in his pro career after winning in his third consecutive start.

Neither team registered a shot on goal in the first five minutes of the game, but the 'Bugs managed to score on their first shot at 6:08. Steven Crampton picked up a loose puck along the boards and sent it out front to Shawn Limpright, who beat Juliano Pagliero on the stick side to make it 1-0 Bossier-Shreveport after one period.

Despite 20 combined shots from the two teams in the middle period, the score did not change as the game headed to the third. It looked as though one goal might be enough for the 'Bugs before Zak McClellan found a loose puck on his stick right in front of the goal crease before depositing it past Foster to tie the game at one with six minutes remaining.

The teams traded scoring chances in overtime, but both goaltenders answered with saves to force a shootout. Rutherford scored on a beautiful move as the Mudbugs second shooter, but Sean Muncy immediately tied the shootout at one for Rio Grande Valley. After two unsuccessful rounds, Limpright shelved a backhander over Pagliero to put the 'Bugs ahead and Tyler Burton shot the puck wide on the Killer Bees' last chance to seal the victory.

Juliano Pagliero drops to 2-1-2 this year after the shootout loss, although Rio Grande Valley outshot Bossier-Shreveport 33-31. The Mudbugs finished 0 for 4 on the powerplay, while the Killer Bees were 0 for 3.

The Mudbugs will now spend Friday traveling to Missouri to face the Mavericks for the first time this season Saturday night at the Independence Events Center. Opening faceoff is set for 7:05 pm with pregame coverage starting at 6:45 on AM 1130 KWKH. The game will also be shown live online on CHL-TV.
