Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release

BOSSIER CITY, La.- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees took more than 54 minutes to solve Bossier-Shreveport goalie Brian Foster but captain Zak McClellan beat Foster with a backhand sending the game to an overtime, and later a shootout. In the Bees second shootout of the season they would fall to Bossier-Shreveport but still picked up a valuable point in the Berry Conference.

The 'Bugs took a 1-0 lead at the 6:08 mark of the first period beating goalie Juliano Pagliero stickside. The Bossier-Shreveport lead would last for more than 40 minutes as the Bees tried to solve Foster.

The second period came and went with neither team developing quality opportunities and both goalies making the saves they were asked. Pagliero made 11 saves for the period.

The Killer Bees would find twine for the first time with 14:05 left in the third period as Zak McClellan scored his first of the season. Tomas Klempa knocked a high pass down in front of the net and McClellan picked up and backhanded it into the net to tie the game. Matt Smyth picked up the second assist.

The rest of regulation would remain scoreless and both goalies continued to turn the rubber away. As the game entered overtime Bossier-Shreveport seemed to have the rink tilted towards Juliano Pagliero however the young netminder turned away every shot he saw. At the end of the extra frame the Killer Bees had a flurry of opportunities but once again were unable to solve Foster.

The game would head to a shootout, the Bees second shootout of the season. Much like the rest of the game goalies would be the difference makers as the Bees fell in the shootout 2-1. Sean Muncy scored the lone shootout goal for the Bees.

The Bees waste no time before getting back to action as they head to Wichita to face the Thunder on Friday, puck drops at 7:05.

Killer Bees fans can follow the team in a variety of ways when away from State Farm Arena. All Bees games are heard on Real Country 102.1-FM KBUC, streaming online for free on killerbeehockey.com and streaming video is provided by CHL-TV.
