Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. (October 28, 2010) - The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League today announced they have signed goaltender Adam Russo and have waived netminder Michel Robinson.
Russo, 27, started this season in Italy with Cortina SG, for whom he posted a 2.82 goals against average and a .920 save percentage. The Montreal native last year played for the International Hockey League's Port Huron Icehawks after spending the bulk of his first five professional seasons in Europe. In 44 games with the Icehawks last season, Russo went 23-14-3 while turning in a 2.81 goals against average, a .908 save percentage and one shutout.
The 5' 9", 180-pound Russo tended goal in Italy- for HC Alleghe, A & O Asiago, HC Torino, HC Merano and HC Bolzano- for four straight seasons between 2004 and 2008. He remained overseas for the 2008-09 campaign, but that season made the move to France, where he played for ASG Tours. His lone stint on this side of the pond prior to last year came when he took to the ice up for five games with the St. Hyacinthe Cristal of the Quebec-based Ligue Nord Americaine de Hockey in 2005-06.
Russo was also a member of the Italian National Team at both the 2008 and 2009 World Championships.
Before beginning his transatlantic pro sojourn, Russo enjoyed four successful seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. In each of his first two junior seasons- 2000-01 and 2001-02- he backstopped the Titan to the QMJHL President's Cup Finals.
Robinson, 28, went 0-2-0 with a 5.50 goals against average in his two starts with the Mallards this season. The Montreal product signed with Quad City after spending the last two seasons in Britain.
