Lien and Camargo Both Drive in Three in 10-5 Win Versus Dash

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Connor Lien and Johan Camargo both drove in three runs and Jacob Schrader and Levi Hyams both hit solo home run as the Mudcats powered their way to a 10-5 road win versus the Dash on Monday night at BB&T Ballpark in Winston-Salem.

Lien was 3-for-5 with three RBI, a double and a run scored. Camargo also drove in three and finished the game 1-for-3 with a triple.

Right-hander Tyler Brosius earned the win after holding the Dash (3-8) to three runs on four hits over five and 1/3 innings. Brosius (1-0, 5.23) also walked two and struck out one.

The Mudcats (6-4) struck first with two runs in the second against Dash starter Tony Bucciferro. Jose Briceno started the second inning rally with a walk and was joined on the bags when Carlos Franco singled to left. Bucciferro (0-1, 5.73) then gave up a single to Lien to load the bases for Hyams. Hyams would drive in his first run of two in the game with a walk and the Mudcats took a 2-0 lead.

Carolina stretched the lead to 3-0 in the third on Schrader's solo home run to left. His blast came on a 2-0 pitch from Bucciferro and was Schrader's team best second home run of the season. Schrader was 1-for-4 with a run, a home run and one RBI in the game.

Two more Carolina runs came across in the fourth and at the time the Mudcats led 5-0. Camargo drove in both fourth inning runs with a two-run triple to right.

Brosius kept the Dash scoreless through the third, but Winston-Salem finally broke through against him with a run in the fourth. Adam Engel led off the fourth with a triple and later scored on a groundout.

The Mudcats led 5-1 through four and added to the lead with two more in the sixth. Hyams brought in the first run with a solo home run to straightaway right. It was his first home run of the season and at the time put the Mudcats up 6-1. Camargo followed by reaching on a bunt and was driven in shortly after when Sean Godfrey singled him with a knock to left.

Godfrey's RBI single put Carolina up 7-1 and knocked Bucciferro out of the game. Reliever Jefferson Olacio followed out of the pen and finished the inning without allowing any further damage.

Bucciferro allowed six earned runs and seven total over five and 1/3 innings. He gave up eight hits, three walks and two strikeouts while taking the loss.

Brosius left in the sixth after allowing two runs in the inning. Andy Otero finished the frame and also pitched a scoreless seventh. Otero allowed one hit, struck out two and kept the Dash without a run over one and 2/3 innings.

The Mudcats led 7-3 after the sixth, but would add on three more when Lien hit a three-run double with the bases loaded in the seventh. His groundball double to the corner came off Olacio who had stayed in the game after getting out of the sixth.

Lien's double put the Mudcats up 10-3, but the Dash would score a couple more in the eighth to inch a bit closer. Britt Robertshaw relieved Otero in the eighth and allowed two runs and four hits in the inning. He left the game with two runners on and two outs in the eighth and Matt Marksberry would be called up on to finish the inning.

Marksberry got the Mudcats out of the inning by getting catcher Omar Narvaez to ground into a force out to end the inning. Marksberry kept the Dash without a hit in the ninth and finished his outing with one and 1/3 scoreless innings. Robertshaw allowed two runs on four hits over 2/3 of an inning.

The Mudcats have won two straight games and are 2-2 on their current road trip. Their series in Winston-Salem continues on Tuesday night with the first pitch from BB&T Ballpark scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Lefty Yean Carlos Gil (0-2, 2.46) will get the start for the Mudcats. He will go opposite RHP Matt Heidenreich (1-0, 1.50) of the Dash.
