Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (April 20, 2015) - Winston-Salem right-hander James Dykstra has been named the Carolina League's first Pitcher of the Week for 2015, the league office announced Monday.
The 24-year-old Dykstra twirled the 15th no-hitter in club history in the first game of a doubleheader on April 15 at Potomac. Dykstra did not allow the Nationals to hit the ball out of the infield during his seven-inning effort, during which he needed just 71 pitches.
Potomac mustered just one baserunner, Rafael Bautista, on a leadoff walk in the fourth. However, Dykstra picked off Bautista before he threw his next pitch.
Dykstra's gem was the first Winston-Salem no-no since Levi Maxwell accomplished the feat on June 19, 2009, at Wilmington. It also took place in the opener of a twin bill.
The Chicago White Sox's sixth-round pick in the 2013 MLB Draft, Dykstra has given up just one hit through his first two outings, totaling 13.0 innings. The Poway, Calif., native is one of three Minor League hurlers with 13 innings of work and zero runs allowed on his résumé.
Dykstra's next scheduled start is Wednesday against the Carolina Mudcats and right-hander Lucas Sims, one of the top prospects in the Braves' system. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. at BB&T Ballpark.
The Dash begin a three-game set against the future Braves on Monday night at 7 p.m. For tickets to any game between the Dash and Mudcats this week, call (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
