RAIN AGAIN WASHES OUT DASH SUNDAY
Winston-Salem's wet week continued on Sunday afternoon. The Dash's series finale against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans was postponed due to rain. It will be made up on Saturday, May 9, as part of a doubleheader. This twin bill will begin at 4:30 p.m., and it will feature a pair of seven-inning contests. The Dash's last six days (Tuesday-Sunday) have played out in the following fashion: postponement, doubleheader, postponement, single game, doubleheader and postponement, with the first two days in this list coming at Potomac.
NEW LOOK, FAMILIAR MANAGER
After three seasons as the High-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, the Carolina Mudcats made the switch to the Atlanta Braves. Lynchburg and Carolina essentially flipped affiliations, with the Hillcats inking the Indians to a four-year Player Development Contract. Thus, the Mudcats boast the Hillcats' previous skipper, former big leaguer Luis Salazar. He had managed with the Hillcats for four seasons, during which he went 269-287 (.484). He led Lynchburg to the Mills Cup title in 2012 with a win over the Dash in the Finals.
A BB&T BALLPARK RARITY
Myrtle Beach clinched a rain-shortened series sweep via Sunday's postponement. This marks just the fourth sweep by an opponent in BB&T Ballpark's six-season history. The Dash did not suffer their first brooming at the downtown facility until August 14-16, 2013, snapping a streak of 81 home sets without at least one victory. Winston-Salem has recorded 20 home sweeps since BB&T Ballpark opened, and the Dash are the best home squad in the Carolina League since 2010, its first year (205-148, .581).
AND A FIRST
Dating back to last season, the Dash have dropped eight consecutive home games. This marks the longest losing streak since the club moved into BB&T Ballpark in April of 2010. It is the longest home skid since at least 2004.
RODON JOINS WHITE SOX
Former Winston-Salem lefty Carlos Rodon earned a promotion to the White Sox, the club announced Monday. Rodon skyrocketed through the Minor Leagues, making just 11 appearances and eight starts. He pitched for the Dash four times, posting a 1.86 and striking out 15 over nine and two-thirds innings. Rodon enjoyed a stellar career at North Carolina State, which included a trip to the College World Series in 2013, the program's first visit to Omaha since 1968. He is scheduled to join the White Sox bullpen, and the Sox open a three-game series with Cleveland on Monday at 8:10 p.m.
DYKSTRA NAMED CL PITCHER OF WEEK
Dash right-hander James Dykstra earned the Carolina League's first Pitcher of the Week honor for 2015, the league office announced Monday. On Wednesday at Potomac, Dykstra tossed the 15th no-hitter in Winston-Salem history in the opener of a twin bill. The Nationals did not get a ball out of the infield against Dykstra, who recorded 14 groundball outs. It was the first no-hitter by a Winston-Salem hurler since June 19, 2009, when Levi Maxwell accomplished the feat at Wilmington. Dykstra is one of three pitchers in the Minor Leagues with at least 13 innings of work and no runs on his resume. He has given up just one hit this season.
ROSTER MOVES
The White Sox announced on Monday afternoon that outfielder CJ Beatty has been placed on the seven-day disabled list. The Winston-Salem native has played in two games with the Dash in 2015. Fellow outfielder Nolan Earley has joined the club from Low-A Kannapolis. He is the younger brother of former Dash outfielder and Carolina League All-Star Michael Earley.
DASH DOTS
The Dash have already had three weather-related postponements this season...The club dealt with seven postponements or cancellations all of last season.
