Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
LYNCHBURG, VA. - Lynchburg had a good night at the plate, recording 10 hits, but they weren't able to overcome a two-run fifth, a three-run sixth, and a huge night from Drew Dosch, as they dropped the first of three to Frederick on Monday night, 6-4.
The Hillcats grabbed the lead in the first inning when Bradley Zimmer beat out an infield single, advanced the second, stole third, and came home on an RBI single from Nellie Rodriguez. Rodriguez had a big night himself, finishing the night with three hits.
Lynchburg starter Michael Peoples dazzled in the first four frames, allowing only one baserunner on an error in the first. He gave up his first hit in the fifth, a lead-off single by Brenden Webb. Dosch followed with a two-run homer to right.
The Hillcats ran into more trouble in the sixth. They allowed three runs on four hits, including an RBI singles from Trey Mancini and an RBI triple from Dosch to make it 5-1.
The 'Cats got one back in the sixth thanks to an Alex Monsalve single to right that scored Zimmer and two more in the seventh on Clint Frazier's first RBI of the year, a double to right, followed by an RBI double from Paul Hendrix to make it 5-4.
The Keys got one back in the ninth on an RBI double from Dosch to make it 6-4, which was the final score. Dosch's final line was three hits in four at-bats, four RBIs, a double, triple, and a home run, leaving him a single away from the cycle.
Mitch Horacek picked up the win for the Keys, going 5.2 innings, allowing two runs, and striking out eight. Peoples took the loss with a 5.1 effort, allowing four earned runs.
