Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
Down two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning third baseman Alex Liddi smashed his third double of the game to clear the bases and lead the Chattanooga Lookouts (37-64) to a 6-5 win over the Montgomery Biscuits (53-50).
After a scoreless first inning, the Lookouts got on the board in the bottom of the second inning when Alex Liddi drove in O'Koyea Dickson, who reached earlier in the inning on a walk. The team's lead was short lived as Montgomery knotted the game up at one on a RBI double by Jake Hager in the third.
Darnell Sweeney aimed to continue the back-and-forth affair when he singled up the middle to begin the bottom of the third. The infielder managed to advance to second on an error, but got picked off at third base by catcher Jake DePew. After Sweeney got thrown out, the batter Scott Schebler launched his 18th home run to give the Lookouts the 2-1 lead.
An inning later Chattanooga continued to build upon their lead when Dickson scored his second run of the game on a single by Liddi.
In the fifth inning the Biscuits took their first lead of the game on a bases loaded walk and a two-run single by Willie Argo. Montgomery then added a run in the top of the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Brett.
Chattanooga seemed destined for their sixth straight loss, but the team's offense had other plans. With one out in the eighth Biscuits' pitcher Samuel Garrido walked Daniel Mayora and then loaded the bases on back-to-back singles by Corey Seager and Dickson. With the bases loaded, Liddi smacked a double to earn the title of Nutrition World Player of the Game and secure the team's 37thwin.
Tomorrow, the team will look to build on today's win when they send lefty, and the Southern League Leader in strikeouts, Chris Reed (4-5, 3.19) to the mound against fellow lefty Grayson Garvin (0-4, 3.92) at 7:15 p.m.
Notes: The two teams today combined for 19 walks. The 14 by Lookouts' pitchers is the most this season and the eight by Matt Shelton is also a team-high.
