Almora transferred to Tennessee; Davis activated

KODAK - The Chicago Cubs announced a series of transactions that impact their Double-A affiliate Tennessee Smokies roster prior to tonight's contest against the Mississippi Braves at Smokies Stadium.

Outfielder Albert Almora has been transferred to Tennessee from High-A Daytona. In 89 games for Daytona prior to the promotion, the 20-year-old has posted a .283 average (104-367) with seven homers and 50 RBI.

The Florida native was rated by *Baseball America* as the No. 28 overall prospect prior to this season, in addition to the fourth-best Cubs farmhand. Almora was selected by the Cubs as the sixth overall selection in the 2012 MLB Draft out of Mater Academy Charter High School in Florida.

In addition, catcher Taylor Davis has been activated from the Disabled List. In 28 games with the Smokies this season, the backstop has compiled a .278 clip (20-72) with one home run and 13 RBI.

The Cubs also announced infielder Elliot Soto has been placed on the Disabled List retroactive to July 21. In 40 contests with Tennessee this year, the infielder has accumulated a .246 average (33-134) with 14 runs scored and 12 RBI.

In addition, outfielder Anthony Giansanti has been placed on the Disabled List retroactive to July 22. In 74 games with the club, the 25-year-old has recorded a .225 clip (40-178) with two homers and 13 RBI.

Tennessee's active roster stands at 25 and a revised roster is attached.

The Smokies are set to face the M-Braves in the third game of their series tonight in Kodak, with first pitch scheduled for 7:15 p.m. RHP Eduardo Figueroa (0-1, 4.41) is slated to take the mound for Tennessee, while Mississippi is scheduled to give the ball to RHP J.R. Graham (1-4, 5.40).
