Jackson Runs Away from Stars

Jackson, TN-The Jackson Generals blew open a tight game late Wednesday night and posted an 8-3 win over the Huntsville Stars at The Ballpark At Jackson to take a 2-1 lead in their five game series.

With the Generals leading 4-3 going into the bottom of the eighth, Jackson exploded for four runs off Stars RHP David Goforth.

Pat Kivlehan tripled to right-center giving them a 5-3 lead. Kevin Rivers reached on a fielder's choice rbi extending it to 6-3. Steve Baron and Brock Hebert then followed with back to back run producing hits. Baron tripled home Rivers. Hebert's rbi single scoring Baron made it 8-3 Generals.

The Generals scored a first inning run in their fourth straight game against the Stars. Julio Morban produced a sacrifice fly making it 1-0.

The Stars tied the game in the top of the third inning. With two outs and runners at first and second base, Hainley Statia lined an rbi single to left field scoring Yadiel Rivera tying the game at 1-1.

Hector Gimenez gave the Stars a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth. Gimenez doubled down the right field line scoring Nick Shaw.

Jackson then took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth against Stars reliever Tommy Toledo(4-2).

With the Stars leading 2-1, D.J. Peterson crushed a two-run homer to left field giving the Generals a 3-2 lead. Dan Paolini also doubled down the left field line in the inning giving Jackson a 4-2 advantage.

Toledo, who suffered the loss, retired just one batter in the sixth inning. He allowed four hits on three runs.

Statia homered for the second straight night for the Stars. Statia's solo homerun in the top of the eighth cut the Generals lead to 4-3.

RHP Stephen Landazuri(5-2) turned in seven strong innings for the Generals. Landazuri allowed just five hits on two runs and struck out eight.

The Stars(16-17, 62-41) and the Generals(14-18, 45-56) will continue their series with game four on Thursday night. LHP Jed Bradley(3-4, 4,.34) will start for Huntsville. Jackson will send RHP Victor Sanchez(5-4, 3.62) to the hill. The game can be heard with Steve Jarnicki starting at 6:50 pm CDT on 92.9 FM, 1450 AM and wtkiradio.com.
