
LHSAA Awards 5A Baseball Tournament to Zephyr Field

Metairie, LA â The New Orleans Zephyrs, the Class AAA Pacific Coast League Affiliate of the Houston Astros are pleased to announce that the Louisiana High School Athletic Association will hold the Class 5A State Baseball Tournament at Zephyr Field in 2004 and 2005.
"The entire Zephyrs organization is extremely excited to bring such a fine tournament like the Class 5A State Baseball Tournament to Zephyr Field," states Zephyrs Vice President/General Manager Dan Rajkowski. This event will bring visitors from around the state to Jefferson Parish and enjoy baseball at a state of the art facility. We look forward to working with Tommy Henry and his staff at the LHSAA and Jesuit High School in putting on this tournament."
Zephyr Field which opened in 1997 at the cost of $26 Million is the home of the New Orleans Zephyrs, the Class AAA Pacific Coast League Affiliate of the Houston Astros. Zephyr Field has hosted many events besides baseball including a historic visit in 2001 as President George W. Bush made an appearance at the stadium to talk about his Tax Relief plan for the United States.
"One of the commission's goals is to make sure all schools play championship games in first class facilities," states LHSAA commissioner Tommy Henry. Zephyr Field is no doubt a first class facility and is the best the state has to offer. We are all excited to offer 5A schools, coaches and players a wonderful place to play their state championship tournament in 2004 and 2005."
The stadium has also hosted college baseball games, the Triple-A All-Star Game in 1999, which was nationally televised by ESPN, College Football All-Star Challenge in 2002 aired nationally by Fox, New Orleans Zephyrs High School Invitational Tournament, Pontchartrain High School Challenge and U.S. Open Cup soccer match. The stadium features 16 VIP luxury suites, a swimming pool, two hot tubs in right field, the "Kenner Regional Korner", located in the right-field corner, and the Dickie Brennan's Home Run Porch located behind the left-field wall.
