Beavers Split the Difference

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Beavers split a doubleheader with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox Tuesday night, winning the front end 10-3 and losing the follow-up 4-3 at Sky Sox Stadium.

Dennis Tankersley (4-6) pitched six solid innings in game one, striking out nine batters and giving up three runs-all on solo home runs.

In game one, a monster six-run fifth inning for the Beavers culminated in a bases-clearing, three-run double by Ben Risinger, upping the lead to 6-1 and sealing the deal for the Beavers.

Flores (5-4) got the loss, giving up eight runs on nine hits.

Game two was decided after Choo Freeman hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh to complete the Sky Sox comeback on the Beavers, who were up 3-1 in the fifth. The game-winning shot came off Portland lefty Cliff Bartosh.

Beaver newcomer Khalil Greene provided all of the Portland offense in game two, going 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs, including a two-run home run in the top of the first. The Tuesday games were the first as a Beaver for Greene, who was called up from Class AA Mobile on Monday. Greene is the San Diego Padres' No. 2 prospect according to Baseball America.

Jose Silva started game two for the Beavers, allowing one run on six hits in four innings.
