High Point Rockers News Release
HIGH POINT, N.C. - Lexington shortstop Roberto Baldoquin collected three hits and drove in five runs as the Legends prevailed over High Point 8-1 Wednesday night at Truist Point. Baldoquin hit a solo homer in the third inning, a three-run triple in the seventh and had an RBI double in the ninth.
The game was a tale of two bullpens. High Point starter Mitch Atkins (1-1) was solid, going six innings and allowing just five hits while striking out eight. He gave up the solo homer to Baldoquin in the third and an RBI single to Jake Romanski in the fourth.
But after Atkins departed, three High Point pitchers went four innings and allowed five hits and six runs. Lexington starter Eli Garcia (3-0) shutout the Rockers through five innings on four hits despite giving up five walks. But the Legends' bullpen tossed four innings and allowed just one hit, an RBI double by Jerry Downs in the seventh.
The Rockers loaded the bases in both the second and third innings, each time with two outs, and were unable to score. On the night, High Point was handed seven walks but none were able to reach the plate.
Baldoquin hit a solo homer with two outs in the third to give the Legends a 1-0 lead. It was his eighth homer of the season. The Legends added another run in the fourth when Michael Choice singled to left, stole second, and scored on a sharp single by catcher Romanski.
Atkins departed after the sixth inning and was relieved by Logan Bender at the start of the seventh. After striking out the first batter he faced, Bender issued a walk, hit a batter and gave up a single before Baldoquin cleared the bases with a triple to deep center field, giving the Legends a 5-0 lead.
High Point and Lexington will conclude their three-game series on Thursday night at 7:05 at Truist Point.
