Lancaster Stormers News Release
You just can't keep a good offense down.
The Lancaster Barnstormers, frustrated with only one single through seven innings, exploded for five runs in their final two trips to the plate to take a 5-2 victory over the York Revolution Tuesday night in a game delayed for two hours by rain.
Down, 2-0, entering the eighth, the Barnstormers picked up a leadoff walk by Cleuluis Rondon. Edward Paredes (1-1) struck out Caleb Gindl looking but hit Blake Allemand with a pitch. Blake Gailen followed with a double inside the third base bag to drive home the first run. Paredes also hit Alejandro De Aza to load the bases, prompting Revs manager Mark Mason to bring on right-hander Isaac Sanchez. Sanchez struck out Trayvon Robinson for the second out. He fell behind pinch hitter LeDarious Clark, then drew even at 2-2 before Clark hit a chopper to second baseman Jack Kenley. Kenley bounced what should have been a routine throw, and first baseman Nellie Rodriguez swept the scoop attempt toward right field as two runs scored.
After Gabriel Moya posted a 1-2-3 eighth inning, Blake Allemand tattooed a two-run homer with two outs in the top of the ninth to extend the lead.
Closer Scott Shuman retired the first two batters in the ninth before yielding a single to Kenley and double to Melky Mesa. He struck out Rodriguez on a 3-2 pitch to end the night.
Eduardo Rivera threw six shutout innings for York, and Brandon Fry struck out the side in the seventh. Run support for the pair was sparse, however. Rodriguez singled with the bases loaded off a fading Zach Smith in the fifth inning. The second York run scored on a bases loaded wild pitch from Donald Goodson (2-2) with two outs in the seventh.
The Barnstormers will send Augie Sylk (2-3) to the mound on Wednesday at 6:30 against Duke Von Schamann (3-5). Fans may tune to the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:25.
NOTES: Allemand's homer was his seventh against York...Jake Hoover singled ahead of Allemand's homer in the ninth to extend his hitting streak to five...Lancaster turned two double plays, and Anderson De La Rosa threw out two runners trying to steal...Shuman has thrown 10 straight scoreless innings...Moya has allowed only three hits in his last eight.
