Leslie Slugs Jackals To Win

Worcester Tornadoes News Release

LITTLE FALLS, NJ--- After a four run top of the third the Tornadoes enjoyed a four run lead, but were again betrayed by their bullpen. Myron Leslie used a pair of two run homeruns to put the finishing touches on an 8-5 come from behind win.

Omar Pena opened the scoring with a ringing two out RBI single scoring Alex Pena to put Worcester on top 1-0 in the second. After NJ put the tying run on the board in the bottom half, the Tornadoes bats went off on Jackal starter and league ERA leader AJ Wideman. Four runs on six hits gave Chris Farley some breathing room. Farley let in a run in the bottom of the third, and then two more in the bottom of the fifth on the first Myron Leslie round-tripper; the one that left the park.

After five innings, four earned runs and three strikeouts from Farley, Eddie Pena (L, 1-3) took to the ball with the 5-4 lead and produced a scoreless sixth. Then Pena, pitching for the second straight night, was taken to the wall on back to back at bats from Timo Perez and Myron Leslie with one down in the seventh. On the Leslie stroke, center fielder Lucas Taylor crashed into the boundary as the ball caromed into center. With the other outfielders too far away, Leslie rounded the bases for his second two run homer, this one an in the park job.

The Jackals put up another two in the bottom of the eighth for Rusty Tucker who struck out the side in the ninth for his twenty-first save, fourth against the Tornadoes. AJ Wideman received a no decision for his six innings. Seth Overbey (W, 4-4) bridged the gap to Tucker and picked up his fourth win in the process.

Back below .500 overall in 2009 (37-38), the Tornadoes will send their best man, Ryan Lobban (9-5) to the hill against Sean Thompson (1-1) for NJ tomorrow at 7:05 in the series finale from Yogi Berra Stadium.
