Sussex Skyhawks News Release
The Sussex Skyhawks finished a 3 game series at Worcester last weekend, winning 2 out of 3.
Friday, August 14 Skyhawks 2, Worcester 1
In front of a sellout crowd in Worcester, starters Carter Clements and Ryan Lobban authored a pitchers duel that saw Clements and the Skyhawks come away with a 2-1 victory. Clements struck out five in eight innings and allowed just one run on five hits. Lobban struck out eight and also went eight innings. He too allowed just one earned run, but an unearned run proved to be the difference in the game. Sussex closer Sandy Nin worked a perfect ninth inning for his eighth save. RF Maikel Jova drove in both Skyhawks runs as he finished 2-for-4 in the contest.
Saturday, August 15 Skyhawks 4, Worcester 1
Sussex used an excellent outing from their starting pitcher and two homeruns to top Worcester 4-1. Tim Stringer had the Tornadoes guessing for seven shutout innings as he struck out nine and allowed just one hit. Stringer improved to 1-1 with the win. Worcester starter Baron Short was equally impressive as he matched Stringer's nine strikeouts in seven innings of work. Short allowed two runs on just three hits but took the loss to fall to 0-1. RF Maikel Jova went 2-for-4 with a RBI while DH Jorge Moreno and 1B John Urick each hit solo homers to power the Skyhawks offense.
Sunday, August 16 Skyhawks 2, Worcester 12
Worcester got a solid outing from starting pitcher Jusef Frias and plenty of offense to easily roll to a big win at home. Frias allowed two runs on five hits while striking out four in five innings of work to earn the win and improve to 4-2 on the season. The Tornadoes offense collected 18 hits, led by 1B Nick Salotti who was 4-for-5 with a double and three runs scored. LF Vinny Pennell and SS Mike MacMillan each went 3-for-5, while 3B Chris Colabello was 1-for-4 with a solo home run, his eighth of the year
