(Vancouver) The BC Lions Football Club announced today that import running backs Martell Mallett and Charles Pierre as well as defensive back Darren Toney have signed with the team.
Martell appeared in 42 games over four years ('05-'08) at Arkansas-Pine Bluff recording 582 carries for 2,888 yards and 27 touchdowns. He was selected as the team's offensive player of the year in 2008.
Pierre spent four seasons on the Florida Atlantic roster (2005-08) and was consistently the team's leading rusher, appearing in all 13 games and recording 161 carries for 1,014 yards and eight touchdowns as a senior. In 2007, he played all 13 games, recording 169 carries for 775 yards and 7 TD's, and was an honourable mention All-Sun Belt selection at the New Orleans Bowl. Over four seasons, Pierre compiled 682 carries for 3,058 yards and 23 TD's.
Toney spent four seasons at Arkansas State (2004-07) where he appeared in 43 career games and returned six interceptions for 111 yards and one TD as well as 72 kickoffs for 1,513 yards and two TD's. He appeared in eight games for the Red Wolves as a senior, recording 27 total tackles, 2.5 TFL, four pass knockdowns and one sack. He also returned nine kickoffs for 253 yards and two interceptions for 32 yards and one TD.
