Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars organization strives to maintain their commitment to serving communities and families in need throughout Chicagoland. The community initiatives highlighted below reinforce the Cougars' organizational philosophy:

Eric Lederman Memorial Fund: The Cougars donated proceeds from several ballpark promotions held during the month of May, along with a charitable match, to the Eric Lederman Memorial Fund. Twelve-year old Eric Lederman of Oswego passed away in April after being struck by a baseball while playing catch during an Oswego Panthers youth baseball game. Eric was a lifelong Cougars fan and attended many games with his family. The Cougars organization dedicated the May 9th game to Eric's memory with a pre-game moment of silence, while Cougars players wore commemorative wristbands.

Ozzie's Home Run and Walk 5K: Ozzie's Home Run and Walk 5K was held on May 19, with a portion of race proceeds and a charitable match donated to Special Olympics Illinois. Representatives from Special Olympics were on hand for the June 4th game to accept a $1,500 check to help continue providing resources for athletes with developmental challenges.

Ozzie's Reading Club: Ozzie's Reading Club, which concluded its 18th season last month, included 400 Chicagoland schools and a total of 134,816 students who improved their reading skills through the Cougars' reading incentive program.

USO of Illinois: In conjunction with USO of Illinois, the Cougars welcomed 19 service men and women, along with their families, from the 318th Public Affairs Operations Center from Forest Park on Sunday's game. The U.S. Army Reserve Unit, which was recognized during the game for their service, has been deployed to Iraq twice since 2002. The USO of Illinois' mission is to enhance the quality of life of the U.S. Armed Forces personnel and their families and to create a cooperative relationship between U.S. military communities and involved or supporting civilian communities.

Valley Sheltered Workshop: For the month of June, proceeds from ballpark promotions, along with a charitable match from the Cougars organization, will be donated to the Valley Sheltered Workshop. Located in Batavia, VSW is a workshop for adults with developmental challenges.
