GENEVA, Ill. - A three-run homer by Danny Mateo highlighted a four-run third inning which is all the Kane County Cougars needed in a 4-3 victory over the Quad Cities River Bandits on Wednesday night at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.

Dean Espy singled to begin the rally against Quad Cities (29-30) starter Sam Gaviglio (3-4). Espy advanced to third when Kenny Swab doubled to deep center. Runey Davis cracked a sacrifice fly to bring Espy to the plate with the game's first run. Two batters later, Orlando Calixte drew a free pass to put two men on base for Mateo, who hammered a ball to right, putting the Cougars (31-28) up by four.

Aaron Brooks (4-6) made the lead stick as he tossed seven innings while surrendering six hits. Quad Cities picked up their first run in the fourth inning as Luis Mateo singled and moved to third on a two-base hit from Nick Martini. Tyler Rahmatulla lifted a sac fly to center, scoring Mateo.

Quad Cities added a pair in the sixth inning as Colin Walsh singled Martini to the dish. Walsh crossed the plate on a sac fly off the bat of Juan Castillo. Matt Ridings (S, 1) replaced Brooks in the eighth and worked the rest of the way as he only gave up one hit while striking out two. Gaviglio pitched seven innings for the River Bandits while Robert Stock threw a scoreless eighth.
