Burlington Bees News Release

BURLINGTON, Iowa (6/6/12) - The Burlington Bees (27-31) played an all-around good game against the Beloit Snappers (34-25) and finished with a 5-to-0 win in game one. The shutout marks the second time the Bees have held a team scoreless through nine innings in the last four games. The Bees shut out Quad Cities through nine innings on Saturday, but took the loss in the tenth.

Luckily the Bees were at home to host the Beloit Snappers for the second time in just over two weeks. The Bees outscored the Snappers 23-to-10 in that three-game series in May. Better yet, the Bees only committed one error in those three games.

Once again everything worked for the Bees on Wednesday night and the Bees helped Drew Granier earn his league-best eighth win of the season. Granier (8-2) squared off against the only other pitcher with seven wins, Jason Wheeler (7-2). It wasn't easy for Granier, but he battled through all seven innings he pitched and once again proved why both his stuff and his moxie make the right-hander the ace of the staff.

Granier only allowed five hits in seven innings and walked two batters. The bearded righty also struck out four batters and induced two double plays. He lowered his ERA to 1.89, which put him in the top three in ERA after Wednesday's games. His 65 strikeouts make him the second best at recording Ks in the stat book this year.

Granier's defense only made one error behind him and the offense made it look easy against Beloit's biggest winner, Jason Wheeler.

The Bees struck first when they scored in the bottom of the second after Royce Consigli ripped a one-out double into right- field. Chih-Fang Pan would eventually score Consigli with an RBI singled to leftfield. The Bees added to the lead by receiv- ing a solo home run from Douglas Landaeta in the third inning. Landaeta leads the Bees with seven home runs this year and finished the game with two hits in four at bats.

Nester also had a hit and an RBI when he brought Wade Kirkland home with one out in the fourth. The offense had ten hits in 32 at bats with three of those coming from Ryan Pineda who fell a home run short of the cycle. Pineda had an RBI triple in the fifth when the Bees scored twice to reach their 5-to-0 lead.

The Bees host Beloit for game two on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. For information on Bees baseball and promotions, call (319) 754-5705 or visit www.gobees.com.
