Lemurs Split Double Header
July 31, 2013 - American Association (AA)
Laredo Lemurs News Release
Laredo jumped out to an early 4-1 lead and then cemented that lead with a six-run sixth inning, taking the first game of a doubleheader from the T-Bones, 10-4. Laredo RF Mike Sheridan put the exclamation point on Laredo's win with his first home run of the season - a sixth-inning grand slam.
Lemurs' 3B John Allen went 3-for-4 in the game with two RBI singles in the first and sixth inning and a run scored. Lemurs' CF Daniel Poma wreaked havoc on the base paths, stealing three bases and scoring two runs, including one on a wild pitch, in addition to his two hits.
Laredo southpaw Greg Wilborn (4-1) went the distance, allowing four earned runs on eight hits through seven innings. He struck out nine and did not walk a batter.
Kansas City 1B Jairo Perez had two doubles and three RBI in the loss.
Kansas City 9, Laredo 7 (Game 2 - 7 innings)
T-Bones' 1B Matt Padgett saved the T-Bones from being swept in Tuesday's doubleheader with a single swing, blasting a three-run home run to beat Laredo, 9-7. Kansas City trailed 7-5 in the bottom of the seventh before burning the Lemurs for four runs. 3B Anthony Davis led off the inning with a walk and CF Kennard Jones reached on an error to set the table. 2B Jairo Perez singled in Davis to get the T-Bones within one and Padgett did the rest. Kansas City didn't make an out in its final inning at the plate.
Padgett finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI. Perez went 2-for-4, including a first-inning solo homer, with two runs scored and two RBI.
Laredo LF Harrison Kain led off the game with a home run. The Lemurs scored two runs in the first and three in the second to grab a 5-3 lead. The Lemurs made it 6-3 in the fifth when 3B John Allen hit a solo homer, but Padgett inched the T-Bones closer with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth, making it 7-5.
RHP Chad Robinson (1-3) picked up the win after allowing one run in the top of the seventh.
