LAREDO, TX - The Lemurs made it seven straight wins to open the 2013 season with an 8-2 victory over Grand Prairie on kid's day at Uni-Trade Stadium.

After two scoreless innings, Grand Prairie plated a run in the top of the third against Laredo starter Mark Serrano. Airhogs center fielder Keanon Simon led off with a double. Simon would score the game's first run on a fielder's choice by designated hitter Brian Myrow.

Trailing 1-0, Laredo's offense would go to work with two outs in the bottom of the fourth. Center fielder Sawyer Carroll smashed a double to the wall in right-center. The Lemurs then tied it on a double off the wall in left-center by designated hitter John Allen. The next batter, right fielder Jon Gaston, hit his first home run of the season over the right field fence to make it 3-1.

The Lemurs would add two more runs in each of the next two innings. In the fifth, catcher Brian Peterson led off with a single to left. Laredo left fielder Marcos Rodriguez added the second home run of the day with a two-run shot into the bullpen to make it a 5-1 game. It was Rodriguez's first long ball of the season and his fourth straight game with a hit. After Grand Prairie scored a run in the top of the sixth, Sawyer Carroll led off with a double into the left field corner. Carroll was then driven in with one out on a base hit to left by Jon Gaston. First baseman Mike Sheridan moved Gaston to third with a single to left. Peterson then sacrificed Gaston home with a fly-out and the Lemurs had a 7-2 lead.

The final run of the game came on a Garrett Rau solo home run to lead off the bottom of the seventh. It was Rau's first home run. Rau came on to pitch in the ninth, facing just four Airhog batters to end the game. Mark Serrano (3-0) posted the win on the mound. The Lemur starter went six innings and allowed two earned runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and no walks. Grand Prairie starter Derek Blacksher (0-2) took the loss. Blacksher worked five and a third and gave up seven earned runs on nine base hits. He also struck out three and walked none but gave up two home runs.

Sawyer Carroll and Jon Gaston both went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Lemurs. Laredo heads out on its first road- trip of the season with a series at Fargo Moorhead starting Friday. First pitch is at 7:02.
