
Lemurs Bullpen Shoulders Heavy Load, Shines in Win

LAREDO, Texas -- The Lemurs (28-33) bullpen had to book all 27 outs in a 5-1 victory over the Saltdogs (24-38) at Uni-Trade Stadium in the series opener Monday night.
Laredo starter Kyle Wilson left with arm soreness after facing just two batters. Leonard Giammanco, Edwin Walker Jr., Chaz Roe and Mike Benacka went a combined nine innings, allowing just one run on five hits while fanning eight.
Giammanco (1-3) pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing a run on three hits to earn the win.
The 'Dogs scored their run in the top of the fifth on a David Espinosa opposite field, line drive home run, his third of the year to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Lemurs added two runs in the seventh for some breathing room.
Justin Edwards (3-5) pitched all eight innings, allowing just three earned runs on seven hits while striking out eight and walking two to suffer the loss.
The teams are back at it Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. for game two of the three-game series. Tommy Palica (1-5, 7.25) is set to pitch for the 'Dogs against Matt Way (6-4, 2.79) for Laredo. Radio coverage begins at 7:05 p.m. on KFOR 1240.
