February 3, 2011 - NBA G League (G League)
Texas Legends News Release

Rio Rancho, NM (February 2, 2011) - In just his sixth game with the team, Dominique Johnson hit a miracle game-winning one-handed shot at the buzzer on Wednesday night to lead the Texas Legends to a 110-108 victory over the New Mexico Thunderbirds at the Santa Ana Star Center.

With the score tied at 108 and 2.3 seconds left on the clock, Johnson missed a jumper from the free throw line. However, he followed the ball, got his own rebound and chucked up a miraculous toss that left his hand just as time had run out to give Texas the win.

In a seesaw first half that featured 17 lead changes and 12 ties, it was the Thunderbirds going into the break with a narrow two-point lead, 61-59. Neither team led by more than six points in the half.

With starting center Sean Williams missing his first game all season due to an illness, all nine active Legends players scored in the first half, as Joe Alexander led the pack with 13 points. Josh Bostic had 14 first half points for New Mexico.

The Thunderbirds stretched the lead to as much as nine in the third quarter, but the Legends closed the gap and went into the fourth trailing 90-86.

Texas started the final quarter on a 7-0 run to take a three-point lead. New Mexico would answer with a 10-2 sprint in the middle of the period to go back on top. With 2:49 left to go in the game Booker Woodfox would nail a 3-pointer to tie the game at 106, before Johnson would hit the game-winner as time expired.

Joe Alexander led all scorers with 28 points, as he also grabbed 13 rebounds. Johnson added 16 points, including a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. He is now a flawless 14-for-14 from the line in his six games with Texas.

Walter Sharpe and Jamine Peterson scored 22 points apiece in the losing cause for New Mexico.

Texas improved to 15-14 on the season after the win, while New Mexico fell to 14-16.

The Legends will now head back home for a weekend of back-to-back games at HP Court inside Dr Pepper Arena. Saturday night Texas will make their first national television appearance on their home floor with a 7:00 PM tip-off against the Tulsa 66ers, airing nationally on VERSUS.
