Legends Take Final Game of Lakewood Series, 10-3

The Lexington Legends exploded for six hits and six runs in the sixth inning and beat the Lakewood Blue Claws 10-3 Wednesday night in Lakewood.

After Lakewood took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, the Legends went in front for good on a two-run homer by Jake Goebbert in the top of the second. After Goebbert's homer, the Legends added another run in the second on two errors, a base hit by Rene Garcia and an RBI single by Jose Altuve to make the score 3-1.

Lakewood cut the lead to one in the fourth on a walk to Sebastian Valle, a double by Brian Gump and a single by Anthony Hewitt.

The Legends sent 12 men to the plate in the sixth. A walk to Jonathan Meyer, a base hit by Garcia, and a bunt single by Grant Hogue loaded the bases. A run scored on Altuve's infield out, another came home on a double by Jiovanni Mier, and J.D. Martinez singled in two runs to give Lexington a 7-2 lead. Kody Hinze singled, moving Martinez to second. Both advanced on a wild pitch, and Meyer, on his second at bat of the inning, singled home two more runs, making the score 9-2.

Lakewood added a run in the seventh, and the Legends scored one more in the ninth. Legends starter Juan Minaya (2-7) got his second straight victory. Colby Shreve (4-4) was the starter and loser for Lakewood.

The Legends open a four-game series against Delmarva in Salisbury, Maryland Thursday night.
