The Lexington Legends hung on for a 6-5 win over Hickory Tuesday night. Chad Reineke struck out Vic Buttler with the tying runner at third to end the game. The Legends had a four run lead heading into the ninth before the Crawdads roughed Enyelbert Soto for three runs on two home runs.

Jimmy Barthmaier (4-0) was brilliant allowing just a run on four hits in seven innings. Soto struggled coughing up four runs in an inning and a third. Reineke (S, 1) closed out the game with the final two outs.

Lexington picked up the first run of the game in the third inning. Jonny Ash singled with one out and advanced to second on the error by left fielder A.J. Johnson. One batter later, Ben Zobrist singled to center scoring Ash.

Kevin Vital smashed his second home run of the year in the fifth inning with Hunter Pence aboard to give Jimmy Barthmaier some breathing room at 3-0.

The Crawdads broke up Barthmaier's shutout with a run in the sixth inning. Neil Walker's single to centerfield scored Jermel Lomack from third base. The Legends regained their three run advantage at 4-1 on Bryan Triplett's triple scoring Ash.

Mike Cockrell, who had two homeruns and eleven RBI in a doubleheader in Lexington on May 24th in 2004, belted a solo shot in the eighth inning. The Legends responded with a two runs in the bottom half. Ash singled in Mitch Einertson, who led off with a double, and raced home on Triplett's double to make it 6-2.

Hickory made it interesting with three runs in the ninth on the long ball. Antonio Sucre crushed a solo homer and A.J. Johnson ripped a two run shot to left.

Wednesday is Education Day at Applebee's Park. The Legends and the Crawdads will play game two of the series in the morning. Ryan McKeller will get the ball for Lexington in the 10:35am start. Legends Network coverage starts at 10:20.
