Hagerstown Suns News Release
Lakewood, NJ:Good pitching and great defense preserves a 5-3 win for the Hagerstown Suns in the first game of a four game series at the Lakewood Blueclaws. The Suns got a great start from Jose Sanchez, and turned three double plays to thwart a Lakewood comback attempt.
Hagerstown (26-13) has now won six of seven games against Lakewood this year after going 5-13 against their Northern Division rival last year. Sanchez (7-0) got his league leading seventh win by holding Lakewood (13-26) scoreless over six innings. Sanchez gave up just three hits and won for the seventh time in eight starts. Carlos Muniz received his ninth save after throwing the final 1 2/3 innings of shutout baseball.
The Suns got on the scoreboard with a two out double by Ambiorix Concepcion in the first inning, scoring Dante Brinkley. Brinkley scored twice, and now leads the league with 31 runs scored. Brinkley, who also leads the league in on base percentage, extended his on base streak to 35 straight games to start the season. Mike Carp gave the Suns a 4-0 lead in the seventh with a two out, three run double. Carp and Jesus Flores each had two hits in the game for the Suns.
Wednesday will be an early start for the Suns, an 11:05am start on Education Day from Lakewood. RHP Matt Durkin goes for Hagerstown. Lakewood counters with RHP Andy Baldwin.
